81 toyota pickup will not idle!

Its a 22r and i cannot figure out why it will not idle! I took it offroading and it started stuttering at first but now it wont stay idling im at a loss there is no vacuum leaks. It runs fine when you drive it its just when you come to a stop when it has to idle it dies. It doesnt overheat. Any advice would really help.

It looks like you are new here so welcome to the site! You might want to be a little more descriptive in your problem - like Factory carb or Weber? Smogged or desmogged? Mileage? Condition? Etc.

You may be a newbie here, but you'd likely get more responses by posting in the Pre-84 section below instead of the Newbie section:

Here's a start for you, do the easy stuff first to eliminate all the cheap/free variables:
-Check the timing (Per the FSM, it should be 5* BTDC at 950RPM max with the vacuum advanced pinched off - mine likes 8* BTDC, but that is because of a few performance add-ons)
-Check the plugs (could be fouled and/or flooded)
-Check the bowl level on the carb
-Check the fuel pump, lines and filters (unlikely if it runs fine under load)
-Check to make sure that the choke isn't stuck
-Check to make sure the PCV valve isn't stuck (you'd likely have some blow by and burning oil if the PCV isn't working properly)
-Check the A/F mixture on the carb (If it is a stock Aisin, I would do this last since they don't tend to come out of tune and they can be a real PITA to tune if you don't know what you're doing)

Any other symptoms? Like burning oil, blow by, white/blue/black exhaust?
