79 toyota 4x4 4speed to 5speed
I have a 79 4x4 long bed with a 4 speed. I want to put a 5 speed in it. What all do i need to make this as easy as possible? I believe the 4speed is a l43? But i havnt laid eyes on the numbers. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Any other "simple" upgrades? Wouldnt mind doing the hybrid motor conversion! Whats all that take? Thanks guys in advance!!!

take a look in the pre 83 folder, there are a bunch of threads on this.
basically if you don't want to redo your driveshafts any five speed L50/L52 from a first gen 4x4 will fit...they are the same length as your L-43 (about 20.75") other options like a W-56 will be 25" long and would require you to redo your d/s (lengthen front/shorten rear) and move your transfer case crossmeber
