2wd Pickup rear bump stop - Need Help

So my rear bump stops were rusted off and missing, all that was left were the 2 broken (rusted) off bolts on either side. The rust traveled its way through the frame leaving holes in spots. Im able to weld some plates over the weak areas but am stuck on deciding what to do for new bump stops.

The ones im seeing online would require me to weld a small square tube to the frame in order to bolt them on. (Can’t get inside the frame to tighten the nut otherwise)

Its on a 1990 2wd Pickup. What would you suggest is the cheapest option so that my truck has bump stops that’ll last?

Do I just weld studs onto the frame after welding a plate over the rust damage? Then mount stock style bump stops with those studs? Any better ideas?

Have spent quite a while researching online and am just stuck on what to do. And of course, I’m a newbie at all of this tinkering.

Thank you

First things first you gotta get rid of all the rust cut it all out or grind it all down. It will just keep spreading and getting worse and worse, then you can weld a plate with the holes in it and nuts welded to the back of it first and personally, you can't go wrong with factory OEM bump stops. I would just put some kind of sealant on the back side of them to prevent water and moisture from puddling up behind the bump stop and starting the corrosion process all over again. and lastly, I would clean the area very well and put a few good coats of paint over it to protect it from the elements.

My best idea is to not even bother putting bump stops in. Unless you're driving like a maniac they don't serve much of a purpose.

Bump stops

Mine were bad also. I tried to remove them but the bolts snapped and there seems to be rust spreading from where they were mounted. Did you ever replace them or just plate the area? Thanks in advance for the reply
