22RE ring end gap

I've started assembling my new motor and checked 2 each top and 2nd compression ring end gaps in 2 cylinders and get 0.014 in on all 4. The oil side rail rings are difficult because they move when I insert the feeler guage. These are Rock rings from engnbldr in a fresh 0.020 over '92 block.
Is this gap adequate or should I file them down?

sorry, i don't have a book/specs on me as I'm not building a motor right now :)

but you should lol.. Haynes or Chilton's will have those specs for ya!

if no luck with that, I'm sure someone will chime in with some info..

FSM says 0.0098-0.0185" for No. 1 and 0.0236-0.0323" for No. 2 compression rings.

Check with engnbldr, they'll have specific details on what you should have and what you should do.

ring end gap

The FSM i have shows .25 - .47mm for the top and .60 to .82 for the second, so I'm concerned that the second gap is too tight

Engnbldr said i must have a a very good machinist and he's fine with 0.014 in for both compressions. He also said they use OEM rings. So am I wrong in thinking they should have an OEM gap?

There are a dozen possible reasons for the discrepancy.

I'd trust them since they're the professionals. :)

thats what i was thinking...

also, i thought EB sold only DJ ROCK products?

EB told me that the label is DJ Rock but the manufacturer is OEM. At least for the rings.
