22re igniter conversion with tccs distributor
Well my questions a little odd for this forum. I've posted here before but unfortunately a divorce in the last year has forced me to sell my little 80' 4x4.
So I picked up a 85 Celica GT for $300 and am working on getting it going. I ran the tests (volt ohm/ 1.5v battery test) and have confirmed that the igniter is bad. The dealer wants $700 for the igniter and there's no way that's gonna happen. So I started reading about a GM igniter conversion but am unable to find out if it'll work for my little celica. It's got a 22RE motor. Somebody on a celica-gts.com said that the conversion worked on his 84' celica, but questioned if it would work on my 85' because its got a TCCS distributor (electronic advance).
What year (if they did) trucks used the TCCS distributor? It's got a 5 wire plug along with the 2 wire connection for the distributor.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! I could use to get this little celica going! It'll make it so I'm not daily driving my chevy C1500. I have to drive a lot during the weeks and the fuel consumption is killing me (again, this post divorce life has made the $$$ tight for the time being!!!)

Mid year 84 was when they went away from the vacuum advance .
This is just a guess since it has been quite some time since I worked on Celica`s
Napa does sell a new one not sure what your cost might be
What about a used igniter Must be a few floating around
I think one from a 85- up 22re would work but some of the pin outs might need changed on the plug
Do you have the part #
Although I am sure the GM style could be made to work Never having done this the work could involve some trouble shooting

so have you confirmed there is definately no spark at all visually?
there shoukd be a bosch igniter somewhere on the net. going into a dealer for a 1980s part is like walking into a thai girly bar with USD hanging out ur pockets.
