22re/22rte injectors

I'm restoring my wifes 1986 SR5 2wd I took a 22RE out of a 94 I'm using the 86 injection system the injectors are shot... I have a set of turbo injectors off a 87 22rte I was wondering if they would interchange w/ impedance or amps ect. the harnesses looks the same .... I'm still using my 86 ECU fuel rail Plenum throdle body ect. I jus put 94 bolck in & injectors r my issue @ 80$ each any ideas ?

no, you can get new injectors for the 86 year from rockauto.com for about 18 bucks a piece or I have a good cleaned set, just would need new orings etc.

You can't use the 94 injectors with the 86 ECU. You will need 86 injectors since your running the 86 ECU.

The fuel injectors changed equilzation for the time period the 22re was in production. The splits are 85-87, 88 and 89-95. The connectors changed as did the amps required to fire them off. For an 86, you will want the Type C...those will fit your harness.

LC has the correct injectors for you

22re/22rte injectors

Wow thanks 4 the tip about online injectors where r u located i like to network w/ Toyotas I'm trying to start my business Mikeztoyz in new Mexico. Do u know if the Turbo push more fuel or are a different impedance ect?

gennro 05-08-2012 10:00 AM

IIRC the 22RTE injectors flow around 290cc. The 1986 injectors are a low impedence and flow about 195cc.

I have a set of 86 injectors that have been in my ultrasonic cleaner and were taken off my 86 22re before I upgraded them.

I am located 1 hour north of El Paso on 54 in Alamogordo, NM.

Wouldn't the ecu control the burst of fuel? The ecu determines the fuel spary right?

gennro 05-08-2012 12:43 PM

It sure does, but it determines that off the injector size. So if the ECU is setup for 200cc injectors and you put in 400cc injectors it would end up injecting 100% more fuel over the stock injectors and would end up making the engine run really rich.

Here is a link to the difference in injectors.

22re/22ret

The standard 86 injectors are low impedance & the Turbo push more fuel my question is the turbo injector is a "C" type injector is it a low impedance aswell or is it a high impedance? My Toyota guru said the ecu will compensate due to the o2 sensor telling it its dumping to much fuel. I'm not trying to argue I'm jus stuck on this the injector. My buddy also said he'd find me a Turbo ecu but will it fit my harness?

gennro 05-09-2012 08:42 AM

Plugging a 22RTE computer into a 86 22RE harness will not work. The O2 sensor only works above 2000rpm and at light engine loads and only will compensate fuel about 5 to 10%. The 300CC RTE injector is 2.5ohms. They will plug in to the 86 harness and work with the 86 computer. The engine will run really rich and run like crap.

So if you don't understand all of that the answer is no. You need 195cc 2.5ohm injectors (1986 4runner injectors) for the truck to run right.

If the ecu is set up to spray 195cc that's all it'll deliver the o2 sensor is active when u start vehicle even @ idle. ...... I'm not an expert. Again I'm not arguing jus speaking what I've researched.

Good luck then

88 22re to a 87 4runner

Hi, I'm a newbbie to this excellent forum and i have a quetion rlated to the injectors, i have had an 87 4ruuner for about a year and it started to have power issues so i decided to swap the motor so i got another 22re from an 88 pickup, but searching here for the possible issues that i can have with the swap ifounfd the one with the fuel injectors, the 88 that has the newer type so the questio is, if would i need anything else besides the complete engine & ecu.

Thanks

I think you should use the intake Plenum & throttle body fuel rail & injection harnesses & injectors from the 87 just use block & oil pan unless its 2wd. I did a 22re Swap from a 94 & jus used everything from my chassis & jus motor outta my 94 2wd & I learned all the interchangeability of the 22re

mariobro03 11-08-2012 08:45 AM

what i did is swap the hole engine and used an '88 ecu I kept the '87 igniter and resistor and its working great so far. I still need to attach 2 sensor and 2 vsv valve due to that the '87 harness dosen't have the connector for those pins.

How did you swap went?

Thanks
