22R start problems.

Hello. Okay so 84 22R replaced manifold.

Put back to together and won't start unless sprayed with starting fluid after that it runs.

I've double checked vacuum lines and looked to see if the choke was closing and it is.

Is my carb just out of adjustment? Air/fuel mixture... Idk. Any insight would help me out. Thanks in advance.

How do your spark plugs look??

Since starting fluid ignites easier then gas if the spark plugs are on the way out or being fouled as they cool it might keep it from starting.

I have seen bad wires do this as well

If your carb is letting the fuel bowl drain into the engine so you have a no fuel issue at start till the fuel pump fills the bowl again.

Are you getting any gas in the oil??

Two things to think about or look at

Why did you change the manifold??

Look for additional vacuum leaks around the carb by spraying starting fluid around the base while the engine is running. If the engine bogs down or dies you have a leak there. Also make sure your manifold is snug against the head. If not that could be causing a huge vacuum leak. Good luck-

Haven't looked for gas in the oil.

I changed it because the temp sensor was broke on the last manifold and when I screwed the new one in huge chunk of manifold broke off that was all saturated with coolent like it's been cracked for awhile... The pervious owner took no care for this car. :/

Ditto on that statement. Fuel draining out of the float bowl is common.

Check your fuel level in the sight glass in the front of the carb before staring the engine. It should be in the middle. Let us know what you find.

What causes the fuel to drain out?....I,m in the same boat, empty and need to spray carb to start, then she runs fine.....got new fuel pump and filter...??

You know I'm not sure what makes it drain but mine was due for a rebuild and it was likely a faulty gasket in my case.

22r no start. Please help!

Ok, I need some help. I have a 1989 22r that does not fire when I am starting the truck.
I replaced the timing chain, head gasket, and spark plugs.
I checked the ignitor coil and distributor cap for correct ohms and for a good spark. I triple checked the timing. I also took off the carb and cleaned it thoroughly, I made sure that it is getting gas to the carb by taking off the hose that runs from the pump to the carb. I adjusted the level of the gas inside the carb so that it is in the middle of the glass window on the side.
I need help please!!!!!!! I'm running out of options
