1995 22N? Over Heating
 

Hi Everyone, First timer on here. Bought a 1995 Toyota Pickup A little bit ago and it was heating up on me(two days after I bought it) so I bought a thermosat and could not loosen the bolts, long story short a friend of mine took the valve cover off and the back to lobes of the cam are blue the motor got that hot and the back to rockers are messed up as well. I was wondering what the average price of a good 22N might be worth, Thanks any info on what I should do would be greatly app, Pics are to come soon!!!! Oh yes is it possible that the oil pump bearings could be messed up to from getting that hot?

Did you check the clutch for the clutch fan? Fan Shroud? And what degree thermostat did you put in it? And you can get a good used motor at a real good price around a grand with a warranty on it from weever used parts they are nation wide!

22N ≠ 22R-E(which is what you have in your 95)

There's no way in Hell that the engine got so hot that it turned the camshaft lobes blue. That's the result of the all too common 22R rocker arm failure.

So no, the oil pump is probably fine. Why does that matter though? I thought you were looking to replace the entire engine.

1. He doesn't seem too concerned with why, or what, caused the engine to overheat. And a failed fan clutch wouldn't likely cause an overheating issue anyways. They almost always fail by seizure/permanent lock-up. And it would be EXTREMELY rare for one to fail in a mannner that would offer little enough resistence so as to slow the fan speed enough to matter.

2. Fan shroud? Like how? What? Like the thing is going to fall off, or malfunction in some way? Many people(I included) have run without one and not had any cooling issues. There's not too likely going to be any significant engine overheating caused by the fan shroud(or lack there of).

3. HE DIDN'T PUT A THERMOSTAT IN IT. Couldn't loosen the bolts...remember?:con:

Hey guys, Thanks for all the imput, I found out that it is a 22RE, the rockers are messed up but still work, there is a slight tick but only heard when the hood is open. they say the oil gally at the back of the motor gets plugged and thats why the cam gets messed up at the back to lobes and the rockers too cause the lack of oil. tightened the head bolts an extra half turn just to see what would happen and now that truck does not seem to heat up as much. should I run and oil flush through the motor and run 20w50 and a good filter to see what happens.

Hey Mudhippy, the cam lobes are blue I will take a pic of them for you, I have nor anyone else has seen anything like this that got that hot and still runs, it does not sputter, miss, hesitate, no lack of power, just the most weirdest thing I have seen and my friend whos a mechanic for 20+ years,
