Will 05 up 2.7 Front Diff fit in 06 4.0 Truck?

Sorry if this has been asked a million times. I'm mainly a 2nd Gen pickup guy. I have a 2006 Double Cab, long bed, 4x4, 4.0 V6 with the factory tow package. I started pulling a camper that weighs 3600# empty. I think max is about 5K. My truck pulls fine on mild inclines but the steeper mountain grades puts me in 3rd gear, 50 MPH @5000 RPM. I'm considering a diesel truck but, I love my Tacoma and it's paid for. I don't trailer that often so I thought maybe swapping in the stock 4.11 diffs from a 2.7 truck might help a bit. I'm told that the 05 up will bolt in. I'm also told the front is different. Anybody know for sure?

I know 3.73 to 4.11 is not much of a difference but I did the same swap in a non Toyota before and it was just enough to keep the trans from hunting. If they will fit and anyone has some for sale let me know. If not let me know either way.

Thanks!
Scott

I'm surprised I haven't heard any advice for this. This is a great site with a lot of Toyota knowledge. I love my Toyota's but, the Tacoma has to go. I need more towing capability. I considered a Tundra and talked to some owners with campers. Seems the power is there but, fuel economy is horrible. I only got 6.9 MPG on my most recent trip towing with my Tacoma. Looks like I have to give up my Toyota quality for a diesel powered truck. Powerstroke and Duramax fuel economy is not so great. Looks like a Cummins diesel is in my future. We still have our 4Runner, two pickups, FJ and a Sequoia so don't hate me too much.

the suspension is the same to the best of my knowledge, as long as the ratios match it should be fine. I don't know if there is any differences like the older trucks that had a 4 cylinder differential with 2 spider gears and the V6 had 4 spider gears.

I have heard the mileage complaints too on some tundras. I had a 2007 Dodge 3/4 diesel that was awesome for towing my 25's travel trailer.

Thanks for the reply. I know the rear diffs are an easy swap. I really don't care about 2 of 4 spider on the front. Just needed to know if an entire chunk from a 4 cylinder 4.10 ratio front diff would bolt in. Seems like what I really need is a turbo diesel anyway. I thought MAYBE I could get away with the 4.10 swap to put my hill climbs in a better place on the 4.0 liter's torque curve. I feel I'm abusing my Tacoma pulling a camper on mountain grades. Time to give it a better home.

I'm still a Toyota lover. I just have to be realistic with the towing capability.
