Hi everyone! Cograw here, with a question on a 2006 4-Runner, when coasting above 35 everything is normal, but at 33 mph or so the truck "catches" and slows down more strongly, 'till about 25 mph then it coasts normally, at a slower rate. The rate of deceleration is about twice the normal coast rate deceleration.
So I accelerate to 40+, let off the accelerator and wait...then at 33mph there is that catch which disappears at 25.
speed up to 35 and coast 34,then tuuug gentle parachute,then 25 mph, normal. Weird! it's like a downshift catch.
At any point I can touch the accelerator again and the bug disappears.
Is that goofy, anyone have anything similar?

Someone with more knowledge of the 4Runner's tranny can probably give you a better answer, but here's mine:
I also drive a 4Runner, 03 SR5 V8 4wd. Mine does it also, but not sure exactly at what speeds. You will probably notice that it does this at other speeds as well. The 4th Gen 4Runners were built with Automatic Transmissions with so called AI (Artificial Intelligence). The Tranny is designed to adjust to your style of driving. That said, my theory on the matter is that the tranny is slowing you down, not the brakes. I read about the new tranny when I was looking at my 4Runner. I have also noticed it, but it seems like a normal thing with the transmission. I noticed when I was driving in snow this winter, using high gears, the transmission seemed to notice, and waited longer to upshift when I had it in Drive.

thanks for your reply, I had the dealer take a look at it, I went for a drive with a technician. He said it is the computer slowing the car because my foot is not pressing on the gas, so clearly I desire to slow down.
So now, instead of taking my foot off the gas to coast, I shift to neutral and this way the computer doesn't try to slow the car,
its a neat feature but really wierd for me.
