TOYOTA TECH OR OBDll GURU'S ?
I Have An '03 V6 4runner. I Pulled A P0022 Code From My Scanner (camshaft Position Actuator A - Bank 2 Timing Over-retard).
Cd That Came With The Scanner Says "fuel Air Metering Auxillary Emission Controls"
SHORT TERM FUEL TRIM 2.3%
LONG TERM FUEL TRIM -9.2%
Question Is This: Do These Engines Have Variable Timing / Camshafts? Will A Bad Maf Cause This?
I Do Have A K&N Intake With The Stock Sensor & 63,000 Miles On It.
Any Input Would Be Helpfull.

Yes. You do have a VVT-I engine. More than likely its a bad actuator or solenoid. Check with the dealer, there may be a TSB on that problem and you can get it covered for free. Your MAF will not cause that problem. Some of the toyotas/scions with the 4 cyl vvt-i engines have that problem and have a tsb on them, so it would be worth calling the dealer and looking into. I will see if I can find anything out tomorrow when i am at work

hmmmm...I honestly dont think that was your problem. Here is an excerpt from the repair manual.
(a) Clear the DTC.
(1) Operating the hand−held tester to erase the codes, or disconnecting the battery terminal or the
EFI and ECTS fuses more than 60 sec.
(b) Start and warm up the engine.
(c) Drive the vehicle around for 10 minutes or more.
(d) Read output DTC using the hand−held tester.
Standard: No DTC output.
HINT:
*: DTCs P0011, P0012, P0021 or P0022 is output when a foreign object in engine oil is caught in some part
of the system. These codes will stay registered even if the system returns to normal after a short time. These
foreign objects are then captured by the oil filter, thus eliminating the source of the problem.
OK VVT SYSTEM OK *

Your emission sysytem shouldnt have that affect on your vvt-i system. Your fuel trims will be off if the vvt-i systems is malfunctioning. If it was just a particle in your oil its probably gone. Other than that i'm still willing to bet its your actuator or solenoid

There are little screens that capture particles so they don't intefere with the VVT-i actuators. I've only see them get clogged on engines where somebody never change the oil. You may have one that is dirty (Bank 2).

Oil Changes Done Religiously Every 3k. Went To Synth Blend After First Oil Change, Now Running Amsoil For The Last 15k. High End Filter As Well. Probably Not An Issue Here.

Bump
I have similar problem. 2005 6cyl 4runner.
Purchased a year ago, with 62,000. Code popped up almost right away. Despite resetting a number of times, always returns.
Need a sticker now. 82,000.
Used one from of cleaner. Code returned
Actuator replaced, code returned.
Next plan is a better brand of cleaner. Suggestions ?
Alternate suggestions ?
