top speed on your 4runner

hi guys, this is my very fist opst and i was wondering whats the fastest any of you have gone in your 4runners. Also does the 4runner feel sluggish at all from speeds 0f 70-80 mph. i appreciate all the help

RunnerUp 08-07-2007 07:21 AM

3rd gen 4runners cut out at 108

if your truck feels sluggish, try turning off overdrive

If you want to go fast go get a ricer car! My 94 on 37's will hit 70 going downhill but it's pretty scary. It will also go about .0001 mph in double low with a crawl ratio of 223.1 and climb a telephone pole...literally I've done it.

its not that i wanna race or anything its just when i hit the highway i wanna go fast. haha going .0001 mph sounds like fun but its not for me

I have no problems holding 85-90 MPH on the freeway. 33's stock gearing and a blower..

I've been past the 110 mark on the speedo, but no GPS to verify actual speed. Got busted going 103 on the way to Mammoth. Luckily, she wrote me down for 99 so I avoided any fines/charges for going over 100 and possibly wreckless driving. Bless her soul, but a warning would have been nice.

EDIT: here's a link to another top speed thread

Well I guess I'm the slow one here. I never had my rig over 75 mph. I kinda baby her I guess.

stormin94 08-07-2007 10:22 PM

I got my 1994 up to around 95MPH yesturday. It felt pretty cool. I like to drive like NASCAR. there's a cool spot on a back road between orchards that is about 3 miles long, and PERFECTLY STRAIGHT.....and freshly paved. I have yet to see the century mark...once I get to 95, every car looks like a cop car, so I usually ease off.

122mph here

I can get my speedometer to say 65 if I am going down hill. I am running 35" with stock gears for now, so I don't know what that equates to.

You are not alone. Never been over 75 with mine either. Too afraid of getting busted.:hillbill:

ya, same here. I'm always afraid I will blow something up over 75mph.

I've had my Runner up to about 170km's (105mph)

33's, stock gears, on the freeway

infiltrator 08-09-2007 09:47 AM

ive gone about 95 (and then the wind feels pretty scary, cuz 95 runners arent exactly perfectly aerodynamic lol) but i think 80 its aobut normal for traffic. you guys that havent ever gone over 75, you would not last out here on the california freeways.

TC22RE 08-09-2007 10:53 AM

Given my truck isnt a 4 runner but I've pegged 5500 rpm in 5th gear, spedo doesn't read past 110 so I don't know how fast that was...

That may be but with high gas prices and safety concerns, not to mention wear and tear on the powertrain and pretty much everything else:nono: , I would get a car if I HAD to go over 75 all the time.
Plus the uber-expensive tickets aren't worth it when added with high insurance:nopity: . I guess I'm a dork, but I can't see why some people drive so fast.
