Taco to avoid?
 

Is there a particular year of Tacoma to avoid? I'm in the market for a replacement and it will most likely be a previously owned truck. I don't need 'bells and whistles'. I've had an '89 Toyota p.u that had 350k + miles before donating it to Purple Heart foundation and a current '99 Taco w/ major frame rust issues (welded plates and angle iron to rotted sections of frame which have extended the life). Both 4x4 trucks w/ ext cab were purchased new but I'm hesitant to purchase new again at the prices I've seen.

The '89 had the venerable 22re and the Taco has 3.5 (5vze?) My wife gave me the okay to start looking at trucks and I'm sort of a Toyota truck fan .Any warnings/recommendations appreciated. Thanks
