Like I said I dont know much about it at all...my goals are on tap horsepower that is easily able to be changed for racing applications and everyday driving applications...I've only modified the exhaust to flowmasters and put in a tornado airfilter...someone at a local shop suggested i upgrade the valve springs and crank before putting forced induction to it...

why would you want to race a 4runner? by on tap do you mean instant throttle response? if so the supercharger is your best bet. Maybe a small turbo but will be limited in HP gains with a small one vs a charger. The bigger the turbo, the more lag you will get and the longer it will take to attain peak HP. Especially with an AUTO trans. At least with a manual you can spool up a turbo better but it's hell on a clutch.

In short Turbo for top speed power, Supercharger for low end grunt.

Or you could be ballsy and run a hx35 holset. On a 2.0l engine its fully spooled at 3400 rpms and flows at 60 lbs/m. On that 4.7 it would be fine. But.... unless you lower your compression in your motor your motor your not be able to run more than 7-8psi on a turbo or a supercharger.

Yup. You can find hx35s for anywhere from 0 -350. They are the stock turbo for dodge cummins turbo diesels. What are you going to use to tune with? With a turbo your going to need a custom manifold set up

TRD has a supercharger for your 4runner.... its factory and will work well. plus it will probably be cheaper in the long run sense you know all the parts exist and work together.. no guess work or custom parts.

oh yea, they have a high boost pulley and allot of other mods too..

the 4runner 4wheeler tested in stock form did 0-60mph in 7sec... after mods your looking at 0-60mph in 6.3sec..

thats a pretty fast 4runner...

There's a few dif routes to go.. you could use a apexi safc or a piggy back style system like aem makes. But id do some more reading up on that. Also you will need new injectors. If there is a fab shop or a speed shop near you swing by there and ask them. you will most likely need to use a t3 flange for the turbo and run an external waste gate. Also you would need to figure out how you would route the plumbing for the intercooler... all in all turbo-ing something that isn't meant to have a turbo is a pita.. getting a supercharger would be easier but having a boosted 4runner would be sweet.

I know STS has a muffler replacement turbo kit, you wont need new manifolds and they are really strait forward to install...

arent the trd 4.7L SC's only for non VVT-i motors? I don't know what he has but the tundra ones might work as long as he doesn't have a vvt-i motor.

Supercharger is the way to go. TRD or URD. URD you can buy from urdusa.com TRD is no longer made IIRC. You have to find someone who's selling it. Hey, you might even be able to buy mine if you want to spend a lot more than it was new
