I just recently replaced the stock front strut assembly with Rancho's QuickLift complete front strut on my 2004 4runner. It is equipped with the XREAS system and I'm wondering if the clunking noise that is coming from the rear of the car is due to disturbing the XREAS system. I have already checked every nut and bolt on the car and nothing is loose or broken. All the bushings look good as well. The noise is pretty significant and only happens on uneven roads or bumps. Do you think it could be the rear shocks? Everything is completely stock in the rear but the new front strut assembly does NOT use the XREAS system, so it is left open and disconnected.

You can't replace a single XREAS shock with aftermarket, you must replace all 4. At this point the XREAS system is pretty much ruined (could be replaced, but very costly). I'd suggest going ahead and replacing the other shocks.
