NO REVERSE...on my Auto Trasmission Toyota

NO REVERSE...on my Auto Trasmission Toyota
The engine: 4.0L V6 1GR-FE
with 4 Speed auto Tranney with 4X4
The problemThings were all great and slowly I noticed that i had to rev the engine more for my truck to move just few feet in reverse....{Going forward is all PERFECT before and still is up to now}...well, i guess the case progressed till one day I was going in reverse up a ramp and the vehicle wanted more gas so I revved it more and a "BANG" happened and I lost the reverse gear altogether!!
Solution:
Is what I hope to read from you gurus out there?...is it a major job...mechanical, electrical, haydrolic....[overhauling!! i hope not]
The tranney fluid is new and the same for filter and no burnt smell is apparent...again going forward and 4Wheeling is still smooth as ever..
