I have a question for you: 2004 4runner VCS and Trac off lights being on
I have a 2004 4 Runner SR5 and I love it but have some questions. It's about the VCS and Trac off lights being on. The place I got it from ran the battery down, they charged it and told me that after driving it the check engine, tire pressure and VCS and Trac off lights will go off eventually. The check engine light went off that day but the other two are still on, suggestions anyone? Also, do the 2004's have automatic daytime running lights? help!! lol

Oh man. This is déjà vu. I'll share this with you to save you time and money. If I had it to do all over again the first thing I would do is take it to a mechanic and have the signal wires on all 4 O2 sensors tested or do it yourself if you know what the reading should be. Second thing, even if you replace them or they are good. Pull the cats. Make sure they are not clogging up or deteriorating. Keep checking all the way down where there could be a clog. If this seems silly, you are in for a ride, if it seems expensive pay double what you think it might cost and count your luck stars. When both lights come on I have read it is usually related to the O2 sensors. This will usually tell you bank 2 down stream sensor. In my case it was the cat. It won't be long till you start to get hesitation and then misfire on the engine. Dealer had car for a week did everything under the sun. Could not figure it out. I wound up having to get a new engine. And sure as heck, the cats coming off the manifold were shot. I tried to save a few hundred and it cost me thousands. Now, after all that, I'm trying to figure out why my MPG is so low. I'm getting 13.5 to 14.1 mpg when I used to get 16+. New engine and bad mileage just does not make sense. Dealer says no CEL or codes so they don't know what the problem is. I've been reading posts here for most the night and it starts out with my similar problem but no one ever seems to have a real answer. Lol. Good luck to you man. It may seem all is good and it's no rush to fix, that would be wrong approach. All the best!
