This is the air inlet scoop that is used inside the FJ's fenderwell. I am looking for a used/free one.

How much did this upgrade cost and what are the benefits?

List price is $132 IIRC...... I got it to my door here in SoCal for $100

The spinner blades knock the dirt down into the squeeze blub, a more straight-thru tube and no open water drain holes.

Here is another guy's pix of the dirt his managed to collect on his Aussie Prado

That means less of it clogging the air filter

Thats a pretty slick little unit. Do they make the same thing for the 4.7?

Pretty sure that they do not because of the air intake filter arrangement.

Ok, cool. I thought you would respond with some Turbonator message like "cyclonic action to the intake air stream increases horsepower by up to 35%" or some crap like that. Guess I should know better that Yotatech members are smarter than that (except for me, lol).

I was actually asked if I noticed any difference in the sound of the exhaust...:nerd:

PS: If you look at the horsepower numbers for the FJ and 4Runner (V6) the FJ only looks higher because the number includes running on premium while the 4Runner was running on regular. Otherwise the FJ loses no horsepower due to the insertion of the pre-filter so my 4Runner won't lose any ponies either

When I was getting ready to add a scoop to the inlet I pulled the dust drain-nipple-thingy and discovered just how much street dust the prefilter had grabbed in 3 or 4 days of use
http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/9...one0151md0.jpg

The FJ Cruiser inlet scoop is not going in. It is a huge headache to pull the inner fenderwell skirt and halfway thru I gave up and put it back.

I bought a PVC "street elbow" with a flange on one end which I shortened up and I modified the inlet area too
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/7464/cyclone018qu7.jpg

On the pre-filter I cut its rubber inlet flange back about an inch leaving a little ridge to ensure a tight fit. I used a silicone type sealent to glue it together
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/4339/cyclone020ac0.jpg
I added a new strip of rubber sponge weather stripping and plugged the whole thing back into the fenderwell.

The inlet is angled slightly upward which gives me roughly 40-41 inches above the ground for water fording
