6 speed in a 4th gen?
Has anyone put a 6 speed from a tacoma or an FJ in a 4th gen 4Runner? Are the bellhousings the same for the V8 and V6?

i am also interested

this would be double sweet if someone were to put it on a 1st or 2nd gen. I bet the 22r would scream with a 6 speed. :)
Someone call up advance adapters tell them to make a bell adapter. :great: |
It is an R series transmission right? If so wouldn't any R series bellhousing bolt up to it?
Either way they would make a wicked transmission for a 7MGTE swap. |
I think 1grfe would bed amazing in a 1st or 2nd gen plus the 6speed and after looking in all theory a taco tranny would work in the 4runner
|
It will bolt right up to a 3.4, I saw this demonstrated on another forum. Since the 3.0 is the same block, it can be done on 1st and 2nd gens as well. And yes, I have seen a writeup on toyota-4runner.org of someone successfully swaping the 6 speed into a 4th gen. I'll try to find the link...
Personally, I've been toying with the idea of instead of swapping the 5 speed tranny I got for my 4runner, sell it and try to find the 6 speed. Then set that up with an Atlas 4 speed transfer case with the manual shifters. That would be sweet. |
is this 6 speed used behind any v-8's or share a bell somewhere. might be a good option for a uz swap if it can all bolt together. IF

Transmission gear ratios
I was really thinking if you could swap the R60/R61 6-speed into a truck or 4runner with a 22re it would be sick, so I did some research on what the different gear ratios are and what the different rpm shift points might be along with the speed. I used a final gear of 4.10 with a 28" tire(stock for an 80's truck/4runner)
G52&G54 First Gear: 3.93:1___15mph@2900rpm Second Gear: 2.33:1___30mph@3439rpm Third Gear: 1.45:1___45mph@3210rpm Fourth Gear: 1.00:1___60mph@2952rpm Fifth Gear: 0.85:1___75mph@3137rpm W56 First Gear: 3.954:1___15mph@2915rpm Second Gear: 2.14:1___30mph@3159rpm Third Gear: 1.38:1___45mph@3055rpm Fourth Gear: 1.00:1___60mph@2952rpm Fifth Gear: 0.85:1___75mph@3137rpm R150F First Gear: 3.83:1___15mph@2827rpm Second Gear: 2.06:1___30mph@3041rpm Third Gear: 1.44:1___45mph@3188rpm Fourth Gear: 1.00:1___60mph@2952rpm Fifth Gear: 0.84:1___75mph@3100rpm R151F First Gear: 4.31:1___15mph@3181rpm Second Gear: 2.33:1___25-30mph@2866-3439rpm Third Gear: 1.44:1___45mph@3188rpm Fourth Gear: 1.00:1___60mph@2952rpm Fifth Gear: 0.84:1___75mph@3100rpm R61F First Gear: 4.17:1___15mph@3077rpm Second Gear: 2.19:1___30mph@3232rpm Third Gear: 1.49:1___45mph@3299rpm Fourth Gear: 1.19:1___50-60mph@2927-3513rpm Fifth Gear: 1.00:1___65-70mph@3198-3444rpm Sixth Gear: 0.80:1___75-85mph@2952-3346rpm If it where to work it would be really awesome to have the 6-speed manual bolted up behind the 3vz or 5vz. Mind you with 37s 5.29 in 6th @ 75mph 2882rpm compared to 3026(R151&R150) or 3062(w56):king: |
You forgot the G58. :great: And why just the 22re? Us Carb guys need some lovin too with our G52/G54's as well. :cry2:

seems like a custom bell housing is needed. No? Did they go lefty on the later (2005+) transfer cases? anyways it does not sound too hard to make it work, w/ the appropriate spline shaft and bolt patterns. advance adapters or marlin crawler? |
i just recently picked up a 4.0 v6 and the matching 6 speed from a 2005 tacoma .. I really dont know much about them yet but i can tell you that the tranny wont just bolt up to the 3.0 or the 3.4 .. the tranny is massive with very unique bolt pattern , starter on the left slave bolted on the left also.. here is a pic of a 3.0 auto bell and the 6 speed ..
unless were talking about another 6 speed this one wont bolt up .. http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...e/104_3224.jpg http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...e/104_3225.jpg http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...e/104_3226.jpg |
Well I guess that is solid proof.
Heres the thread I read back in the day I got my info from: http://www.customtacos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31496 Maybe they didnt know what they were talking about back in 2004. Are you gonna try to make some sort of adapter plate to make it fit RMA, or are you just gonna leave it on the 4.0? Citrus, finally found the link. It was a 4th gen with a swapped in 6 speed, but the motor isn't a 4.0 http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-ge...nual-swap.html |

So can this be done? Mounting a 6spd to a 5vz?
