2006 4Runner transfer case grind/sunroof noise...
I have a 2006 Sport Edition. I searched the forum and didn't see anything about a grind. If I turn it to H4 going 40 it will go into 4wd without issues. If If I am at a dead stop it takes forever to go into 4wd but isn't an issue as much. We park the truck in our back yard off an alley. If I am going up the alley between 10-15 mph the transfer case will grind like an SOB going into H4. Anyone else have this issue?
Also when I open the moonroof it makes some really loud noises when it is fully open. It is fully open but seems like it is still trying to open it farther.

The moonroof wind barrier automatically changes height at 60 MPH. This is probably what you're referring to. I have a full time 4WD V8, but my understanding is the V6 does not like to be switched into 4hi at a stop. You're better off engaging 4hi while moving.

That's true, if only becuase the hubs need to be aligned. If you are at a stop, either you can't hit 4wd at all or it engages right away. Even coasting in neutral will help you. Also, try pumping the breaks lightly if you are stopped, this has helped me. Your transfer case could be grinding if the alley has rough surfaces, causing wheels to spin at different speeds or you could be turning the wheel which will also cause it to grind some. My advice is make sure you are on an even surface, have no tire slippage, and the front wheels are straight. I have noticed that 4hi with the center diff unlocked doesn't affect gas milage that much and doesn't seem to affect acceleration either, so when the roads are questionable in some areas, I just leave mine in 4hi, its the same system the v8 uses (when its engaged) so in theory it could be left on all the time.
