The wood getter got wood...(PICS)

So, I got most of the rust worked out, There are still a few small spots that need to be filled in, and she needs to be painted. I have decided, this will only be a beater, wood getter truck, as it handles like poop on the road, therefor... I am not concerned about looks(and its a good thing..lol).

Here's the before...

I decided that I really dont like body work, its a p.i.t.a., and I stink at it, but here she is anyway....

during the repair...

Sheet metal cost me $30....welding it to that thin steel was very dificult with the welders I have on hand.

And finished (well, as close to finished as it gets till I have enough firewood)

This first load was light, the truck sat for almost 3 years, so I'm still taking it easy.
Not bad for a free truck huh? YEs I knoiw...don't quit my day job... body work is not my thing... so How bad does it really look...go ahead...let the opinions fly...I personally think it looks like poop....but it's a wood getter, and I have no plan to win any beauty contests with it.

I have a stepside fiberglass bed for it, in mint condition... I think after my wood getting is done...it will go on.

Btw.... every spot of rust I could find has been por15'd... then sheets welded in, then por15'd again, then fiberglass, then bondo, next...paint.

Looks way better than it did with all the "speed holes"

littlecommando 09-16-2008 04:34 AM

it looks nice

if its only for getting wood, then i wouldn't bother putting the bed on it, i would sell the bed

DYNNOMMYTE 09-16-2008 06:10 AM

flat bed tha damned thing and make it really work for you...

zlathim 09-16-2008 06:32 AM

Nice work 420. It looks way better than before.

wardriver 09-16-2008 07:39 AM

Looks good to me...and if I was going to bang through the woods with it - I doubt I'd paint it.

874runnersr5 09-16-2008 07:57 AM

Thats good man,
come fix my rust patch lol.

MIKEMOKAS 09-16-2008 08:07 AM

glad you ditched the massive light bar!

x2 on the flat bed idea!

the wheels on the passengers side would annoy me if it was a dd.., but the hell with it, its a woods truck.

looks good.

i painted my truck with hammerite ($60 gal.) because i love to go trail riding. seems to be holding up quite well.

now THAT is the kinda rear bumper I like to see on trucks! just a straight up piece of steel channel. so simple. the best i've seen for the front is a railroad tie :)

looks like the trim around your windshield is peelin' up. do you have rust around there too?

x3 on the flatbed since your bed is so rusty...but i'd make it out of wood since you are hauling wood, and then it can be with its family.

wow i hate rust, its not bad really. i wouldn't paint it either the colors are almost the same,

He obviously stole my design. :banger:

I've had 2 people run into my rear bumper since I put it on and it really messed up the other persons vehicle.

One of those people was my wife coming out of the driveway.......

Looks good 420. What is making the road manners so bad?

tampabayota 09-16-2008 11:21 AM

if i were you id worry bout your soffit and facia boards before winter comes rather then work on truck jmho.

Jay351 09-16-2008 11:30 AM

I would take a few mins and fix the drivers side rear wheel opening a little ;)

Otherwise, it looks MUCH better then before! Id give the rear bumper a shot of black paint too :)

annoying and forbidden... isnt it about time to retire the rustmobiles and get a newer yota? im not sure how safe something like that is on the street, if you get hit the frame will probably snap due to the rust. i mean if the bodys that bad, then hows the frame look? ...then again i may just be messing with you, YOU dont know that!

Well, I've been thinking that, except, I just got my truck, and I kinda wanna do a full restoration.

The frame on my truck seems like it's in pretty great shape, I'll check it out again once I clean her but, I think it's got very minimal rust. Maybe I'll pull off the body, clean it up and POR-15 :)

forbiddenera 09-16-2008 04:13 PM

Besides isn't it the newer Taco's that have frames rusting in half? :hillbill:
