Will I Need A Longer Driveshaft?

OK so i just put on a 3 inch body lift. along wiht the body lift i also installed a 3 inch drivetrain lift to suck the engine tranny and xfer case up inot the frame and keep the same distance between the body tub and all the drivetrain. it works out great! got rid of the old box frame cross member and got a new low profile bud built crossmember and i have gaind 3 more inches of underbelly ground clearance. with that said my rear driveshaft has already been extended as if for a 3 inch suspenison lift just in the upward direction right ? well it is certainly extended. i also plan to do a 3 inch suspension lift making it a total lift 6inches and that much extension on the driveshaft. in your guyses opinon will i need to extend my driveshaft to compensate for this lift setup?

i believe so, my 85 was good with 4inches but then again it was an 85 truck leaf sprung. I would get it extended its not that expensive.

My friend told me that the rear shaft is good for 7inches of lift...He said he would add an inch maybe 2 to be safe but it will work. I did a 4inch lift on my 87 and with all the extras bolted on i ended up about 7inches and have stock shafts front and rear.I havent wheeled it yet so who knows how they will do off road

I've got close to 6 inches of lift and didn't need to. How is your angle going from the transfer case to the center bearing? I had a vibration show up after raising my drive line.

This was my angle that gave me trouble:

I have about 4.5" of rear lift and my stock shaft would have worked out okay. I have dual cases though, so my shaft had to be shortened about 6"-7" to accomodate that. Now it runs at a fairly steep angle.

I would guess that with 3" of drivetrain lift and 3" of suspension lift you'll be fine.
