Whining noise when I turn off engine
When I turn off my 87 4Runner with the 22RE, it makes a whining noise. I noticed that it started doing this after I switched over to Mobil-1 Synthetic. Any ideas?

I dont think the kind of oil would do it only thing i can think of is the weight of the oil... is it thicker or thinner then what you used before? could be it... but it just doesnt seem like it... can u be more specific on where this noise is coming from?

The oil weight I am running is the same as before. Just now I am running synthetic. I am not sure where the noise is coming from. All I can hear is that when I turn off the engine, it makes a whirring noise. Like something is not shutting down smoothly.
Could it be related to the valves?

Whinning Noise
Have you tried looking at fan or fan clutch maybe ???
Not sure unless it is a tiny vacumn leak bleeding off -they can sound funny sometimes .
Can't imagine a oil change messing up something , I run all synthetic myself and can't imagine what could be turning a little after shut off unless the fan , maybe you got a leaf or stick in your shroud hehe .

What you said got me thinking. Maybe my timing is off a little. On my last truck when my timing was not right it would diesel a little after I shut it off. It does not act like it is shutting down smoothly.

See i have the same thing going on right now with my 301... i just swaped out the distributor and all that fun stuff. But i also put in the same type of oil... now when i turn on my car the RPMs go way up, i hear the whine, and when all power is cut something is whineing down... Im wondering could it be something like my oil pump?
