Whiney Pump? brakes and steering?

Hey guys,
I am having some issues with a pump in my truck. Originally I thought it was just the power steering pump, as it squeels (its leaky). Recently i started my truck and it was whining, so i turned the wheel either way to try and fix it and nothing changed. I then took my foot of my brake, and it stopped

WTFFFF
What could it be?

Do you have anti-lock brakes that draw from the power steering pump?

I'm having the same problem with my 91'... Did you ever find a fix or cause of the problem?

Might be a long shot, but could it be a squeaky belt on the alternator? Mine did a similar thing when the load on the alternator increased, the load from the break lights was enough to mildly squeal the belt.

As far as I know there is nothing that draws power off of the power steering system aside from the steering its self.

It's defiantly coming from the power steering pump. I checked it out with a stethoscope. It happens when in park and if I brake while driving. The crazy thing is that it's a new pump. It also acts as if it doesn't have power steering at all.

I had the steering recall done then installed a new pump myself as the old one would groan for awhile after I started it up in the mornings.

Might want to take a look at your rear diff and see if there is a sensor bolted to the top of it. Mine is a '91 and originally had ABS, until the PO changed the axle out for a diff without the sensor hole. Now my ABS sensor just hangs back there.

As for the squeal, I've got the same thing 50% of the time at startup. I give it some gas, and it goes away. I think mine is the alt belt, cause it comes back sometimes when I run my winch.

EDIT: Just realized that I was replying to a 3 year old post. Still applies though. The power steering pump runs through the ABS actuator, if you have ABS.
