What's your range on the low-fuel light?
I got 15 or 20 miles out of it tonight. I think the light sender is in the back of the tank because when I was going up hills, the light dimmed or went out. What's the furthest you've gone with the light on?

Definately in the back. Going down hills it usually comes one, going up, it turns off.
I've tested it to about 12-15 I believe. |
I did just over 25 miles in my 93, 25 very long miles because I had to listen to my wife say 'We're going to run out of gas out here in the middle of nowhere and die' every minute or so :D
|
i'd say about 20 mi. i ran it out this past week
i'd have to agree with you about the sender, and the pickup as well. Mine started to stutter on a down hill but was fine when it leveled out |
ive gambled that its about 2 gallons, in my 3rd gen, once the light is on, i ONCE went 43mi w/ it on. i dont gamble often
|
i dont know i have allways stopped for gas as soon as the light stops fading in and out and stays on i think i have a 15 gal tank but i also have a aux tank on top of my spare so
when i fill up i get about 15.87 gallons a fill up so some gas must be back filling in the aux |
I've hit 27 with no problems, I think i was running 31s and 4.88's.
I know that the most I've ever put in is less than 18 gal, around 17.7 or so. When the light first comes on, I can put about 15.7 gal in. |

38 miles AFTER I noticed that the light was on (in the mountians since I forgot to fill up before going over Mt. Hood pass from Bend). 2000 3.4L 4RNR |
well i think the gas light comes on when i've gone through 14.5 gals. I know i have at least 17.3 gals (specs). I've never filled it up w/ more than 16.5 i've prob gone 40 miles w/ the gas light on. it's nice when it comes on early when ur someone who likes to push it. :)

theres a low fuel light? i've yet to see mine, although i tend to fill up with 2+ gallons left in the tank
|
all of your light sensors are in the back? i know when i go UP hill my light comes on. and when i go down hill it goes off. i know this for a fact cuz im poor and i drive with my light on alot. also in the manual it says when your light comes on that means you have 2 gallons left. i dont know if that means when it first flickers or if when is comes on and stays on.
|
yeah about 40 in my 3rd gen, the tank was on a friends (actually his parents) dime, and he insisted we keep going, I did not like it very much :), this was about 40 miles of the light being on solid, not the on for a few minutes, off for a few, that went on for about 5-6 miles also... somehow he fit 17.8 gallons in it, with the gas full to the top of the neck
|
i've ran on mine for about 15 miles, but that was the most i would chance. Im pretty conservative as far as risk taking. Tim

I have never ran out of gas in the 4R yet. I have gone as far as 20 miles after the light comes on. When I filled up, it took 17.4 gallons.
The tank must have been almost dry as I think manual says it only holds 17.3 gallons. Then add a tiny bit extra for the filler neck. |
Ive gone around 40 miles after the light was solid. I was able to sqeeze in about 17.6 gallons after that. Good thing I didnt get stuck in a traffic jam .

I have gone for 21 miles with my light on, I have a 2nd gen. I live in the San Bernardino Mts. and go to Costco for gas, which is about 20- 21 miles from me.
Haven't run'er out of gas yet, but have defenelety had her sputtering. |
have never seen mine come on either and i have ran it really low a time or two just to see if i have one i have a 95 pickup cant remember how many gallons it takes to fill it back up
|
The light for me comes on about 1/2- 1 gal, the first quartermark on mine is 3 gal avg.
|
It comes on around 3 gallons, sometimes before, on hills...I've gone from 30-60 on it without running out.
