Ive seen some other threads in the past. Click on the search button up top and search.
What i can remember is 2.25'' pipe is good. You dont want anything bigger. A high flow cat and theres been several muffler discussed too. And if you have 800 to spend, get some headers. I have stock system except there is no big muffler, just a cherry bomb glass pack. It sounds alright but I want something louder. Maybe a flowmaster 40. |
2.25 is perfect. no bigger, no smaller. I have a flowmaster 40. its got a nice little rumble to it. but im upgrading to a Doug Thorley cat back soon. 2.25 size of course.

I'm running a 2.5" high flow cat and 2.5" muffler, both magnaflow, turn down before the axle.
I have no complaints, it sounds great and people get out of the way for me if I rev the engine :) Cost me $200 installed, $120 for the cat and muffler and then $80 to get it welded up at a local shop. |
I bought a stock OEM cat-back from the dealer for $129. Sounds good, no issues, easy install:

lol, 5k on the 3vz.
I like the sound of that exhaust tho. |
For those of you that have done this, have you noticed any performance gains? How has it affected fuel economy? Just curious.

exhaust is the best thing you can do for a 3vz-e. but I dont think i've ever taken my 3vz-e up to 5k though... lmao

Try installing flowmaster.. just installed it on my ride last week and it gave just the right sound..

I have a 95 toyota pick-up with the 3.0 with a dual flowmaster 40 series open cat. and a 95 toyota 4-runner single exit with an open cat. the dual sounds sweet but the single exit is a lot louder and very abnoxious. I did not notice a huge gain with either system unitil i got rid of the y-pipe and installed headers on the pick-up. the dual exit sound a lot smoother with the headers than it did with the stock headers and y-pipe. I really like the flowmasters and is a geat buy and cheap to install. The flowmasters are not a bolt on exhaust but it you can have an exhaust shop put it on how ever you like it.
