What is this thing beneath my intake?

Not sure what this thing is but it looks unnecessary haha. Changing a timing chain and getting rid of unnecessary emissions stuff, heater stuff, ac stuff. I'm guessing it is heater related, connects to the crossover.

auxiliary idle air valve. controls your idle. you're gonna want to keep that!

Why would he want to keep it??

Out of all my 22RE engines I don`t have one that works like it should and they all failed most causing a head gasket failure just from the temperature spike

@thook - I don't believe that is the auxiliary air value, that is the Reed valve that is part of the PAIR system, pulsed air injection, which is supposed to help with emissions. The picture is sideways, and I've just starting sipping my coffee, so maybe I'm looking at the wrong part, but that's what I see.

@wyoming - can you elaborate on the temp spike issue? Not sure I've heard that one before.

And to the OP, if you do really want to get rid of this thing, you have to buy or make blockoff plates for the exhaust where the little air injection manifold is bolted.
