What is this rear brake line??

Hi,

I can't use a camera right now, so I thought I would just ask. The LSPV has a bottom line that runs to a dead end on a bracket on the rear axle. This line was bent and its connection to the axle is sitting crooked on its bushing. I looked through the FSM a few times and still can't find a description of what it is and what it does. I'm especially confused as to why it dead ends.

What is it?

What does it do?

Can I just bend the line back to its original shape (assuming I can find a diagram or photo of its original shape)?

THanks!

ah ha

Okay, so the lower line is there to increase brake pressure when there is a load in the bed...yes?

The last question still stands: can I just bend it back into shape or is there a possible issue with screwing up brake pressure?

Thanks again. Sorry for the dumb question.

Is it the load sensor arm? Hard to tell without a pic but it sounds like the arm that goes to the rear to sense the load you have on your bed.

its the load sensing arm not a brake line at all, the brake line that comes from the lspv to the axle is a flex line, the lspv has three lines: input, return, and the one that goes to the rear axle

Yep, it's definitely the load sensor arm. I don't know why I couldn't find it in the FSM.

The way it's sitting right now, the lever-thing it runs to at the axle is bent slightly forward and pressing against the e-brake cable. I would like to disconnect it from its bracket and get all the fittings straight, as well as straighten out the line which is bent in the shape of my spare tire.

What I don't quite get yet is what doing these things does to the LSPV. I am going to need to bleed the system?

OK, that makes sense. I'll just disconnect it and make sure the fittings are ok.

My brakes are a little funky right now (after rear-impact): the pedal barely compresses but the brakes seem to work normally.

If you bend it up you will have to much brake pressure to the rear brake because it thinks you have a load on the truck

NIght-rider, that makes perfect sense. Thanks!

The deal is that the line is pretty bent right now from an accident. The pedal feels stiff before and after starting, but the brakes seem to work evenly and without locking. Does that sound like a possible outcome of the load sensor arm being bent?

Anyone have a nice pic of what it should look like?

Raise your truck from the frame so that the rear is hanging then bend the arm to the rear so that when suspension is all the way extended the arm is at the bottom. Then drop truck and your done

Thanks again, Night-rider, but just to make sure I understand:

1) the suspension is fully extended by lifting the frame

2) I will bend the arm until it is a straight line?

I'm still trying to find a good pic or diagram that show the natural shape of the (entire...lotsa partial pics) arm.

Edit: I think I finally found the FSM page that show the arm (BR–64). It looks like it's meant to run in a straight line. My apologies for asking so many dumb questions. Thanks a ton, Night-Rider!

As you can see the arm pivots at the valve so you want it all the way down with suspension extended so its pretty much at zero load and as you set the truck down ot will pivot back up depending on your load.

or instead of playing with the load sensing arm you could ditch the LSPV totally and install a MPV...that's what i did...there's a write-up somewhere...i'll post it when i find it

found it: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...nstall-229608/ i used a valve from jegs...careful with that...ive been getting jegs catalogs ever since...

AZ_Eaglescout,

Yeah, I have come to that conclusion. Something is broken at the point where the arm enters the LSPV and I didn't feel like opening it up at the moment.

Since your name kinda implies that you live in Arizona, I have a question for you:

Do you know a shop in southern AZ that would have a manual PV on the shelf? I would prefer not to wait on shipping. I'm in Tucson but was considering going up to Phoenix for a spring training game, any way.
