what is purpose of this ?

I have 91 22re. What is the purpose of the resonator? I don't have a picture, but it is the plastic ball next to the throttle body and connected to the small tube going to the air box. Is it needed? Thanks!

I think thats part of the pair valve system! Its used for emissions. I may be worng.

DeathCougar 04-16-2010 10:35 AM

Yes its part of the emissions (pair system), as well as a silencer so its not as loud. Hence the shape.

Yep it does connect to the pair valve. But other than being a siliencer does it serve any other purpose?

Oh that's why my truck runs like crap! It sounds like like toilet bowl when I step into it! LOL

I swapped in a 1st gen airbox that didnt have the hook up for it. A rag works, and havent noticed a difference:hillbill:

And I guess the rag could double as tp since you'd have to use the woods as your spare toilet parts are gone =)

just pick up a little air breather filter from the parts store and stick it right on top of the resonator :great:

makes the noise a little more noticeable, but it works like a charm!

lol, well okay, a spare rag (or even that spare sock left over after the drier eats one) will work just fine :great:

Yeah its serving its purpose untill summer when i decide to do it the "proper" way.
