what else do i need for header swap?

I just ordered a Hays super brute clutch and a pacesetter header kit for my 90 4x4 and was wondering what else i should order and where you recommend from? Im guessing header bolts would be wise but anything else and where do you recommend ordering from? Im sure the header kit comes with cheap paper gaskets and the Toyota dealership is about an hour from my house so can i get whatever you guys suggest from autozone? thanks for any replies

Like you said, the header bolts would be a good thing to change. A good gasket is a must, I went thru 4 downey gaskets on my old truck before I bought a felpro. If you are worried you could order a gasket online, LCE sells a good one.

You didnt ask about the clutch, but make sure the kit has a clutch alignment tool, and you replace the pilot and throwout bearings as well.

it comes with throwout but no pilot bushing. again, is this something i could get away with from a parts store or hold off and order somewhere else? reason is ive got some friends coming over this weekend and dont have a dealer closeby. thanks for the reply

If your pacesetter is anything like mine was, you'll need some machining to get it to seal to the head properly... Fought exhaust leaks CONSTANTLY on that thing.

get a remflex gasket. they are thick and will seal most anything. the only thing is, with the 22R-E gasket, if you have the air injector system on top the manifold you'll need to punch out part of the gasket at the top of the "pear" on each port(hold it up to your header and you'll see).

i highly recommend these gaskets. also, mr. gasket makes good asbestos gaskets for these apps.

Whoever had this truck before me installed a header and flowmaster exhaust. It leaks.

I cant stand leaks, after 3 Downey gaskets I went will a felpro, AWESOME, then I had some small leaks in a couple other places, so I welded it all up, and was one piece from header to tail pipe.

I have a buddy that is part owner of an exhaust shop, so I'm gonna redo my entire exhaust system in a few weeks. I can't decide if I want to order a header or fab one. I just don't know enough about the 22RE to make a sound decision.

Does anyone know if I can run a 22RE without a cat converter? What do I have to do to make it run properly after removal of said cat converter?

The engine could care less if you have a cat. The oxygen sensor is before the cat, so the ECU will never know. I removed the cat on my 95 runner, I will never do that again. The exhaust stunk so bad I could no longer drive with my rear window down. It also go so loud I had to put a second muffler in.

I think the header is the best mod you can do to this engine. I have done ingitons, intakes, exhaust, header, and a cam, and the only one with a notible amount of performance was a header. I just ordered a LCE header, and a hi-flow cat and a flowmaster. I am also putting a heavyweight flywheel and a centerforce DF on with the exhaust when I get home in May. I am looking foreword to a bit more power and low end.

Also, my owners manual, for my current 92 and my previous 95, said that O2 sensors would be replaced at no cost to me by toyota. Free is pretty good, had it done on my 95, and will have it done in may to the 92 when it goes in for the relay rod recall.

well i called and cancelled my header yesterday. after much research, it sounds like pacesetter is hit or miss and i dont want leaks or fitment issues. Right now its leaking and sounds like a dump truck so for now maybe ill just get new gaskets and wait for a deal on an LC header. Thanks for the replies and advice
