what clutch should i get

Im looking for some imput on what clutches you guys and gals have and how they feel and have lasted. I only am running 32 inch tires right now but plan on dooing sas gears and 35's.

right now i am looking at the centerforce 2, hayes super brute, and a beck arnley. All are spose to be heavey duty and i can have each one of them by saterday when i plan to put a new clutch in.

what do you think what is good on my list and also give me some other good ones you know of that wont completely deplete my bank acount.

i still like factory. feels good, lasts long enough if you are riding it, and you can get them online for about $180 shipped. asco/aisin is the manufacturer. intrepid and i have both purchased from eclutchmaster.com off of ebay, and we both have no complaints about the product or the service. i have about 40k'ish on mine now.

I think mine is going too.

Any opinions on ceramic clutches for offroad use? Too "grabby"?

If you just have a 22RE or 3slow then an original would be just fine. These engines don't make enough HP to justify an upgrade. IMHO.

ceramic clutches are going to be very grabby. Period. I came from the street racing world, and am fairly new to the world of trucks, but the more heavy duty the clutch (especially ceramics) are going to be very grabby, and harsh engagements, but they will take a beating, but if your not burning the clutch, and aren't making gobs of HP, even in a 3.4, I just cant justify needing a better clutch, unless your burning the piss out of it. Outside of heavy racing though, I wouldnt go above a stage 2 clutch, I had a stage 2 in my MX6 Race Car, and it was VERY grabby, but it saw duty at the track every friday night, so I needed it to take the gear burning abuse....but in an offroad truck, I'd stick with original for the money unless you are having real problems out of it.

What do you guys think of the inexpensive clutches that Advance Auto sells? I think it was like 139 bux for the kit...semi related topic would a lightened flywheel improve mileage on a street truck?

im using a perfection hytest clutch kit from advance auto and ive been pretty happy with it. i have heated it up a few times and it always seems to grow back, lol. honestly i wouldnt be able to tell a difference in a stock clutch and the cheap one from advance. time will tell, right now i have 12k on it and have done some hard pulling and driving on it. i dont plan on stopping anytime soon.

as for luk clutches, they are very very good parts, thats what they use in the corvettes and alot of gm vehicles. i have a heavy duty luk clutch in my sonoma.

1) No and 2) No.

1) I got a Checker Clutch, won't be doing that again. OEM or maybe the Centerforce if I feel the need... but probably OEM.

2) Your truck's weak spot is not the weight of your flywheel, it's the weight of your truck. The overall spin-up speed of your engine does not warrant the lightened flywheel IMO.

I was just thinking that less weight spinning at idle when in traffic would mean less pull on the engine. If I'm wrong sorry...I'm new at this stuff.

No need to be sorry, just thought I would let you know.

A fast revving sports car will see big gains from a lightened flywheel, but probably not that incredible for a regular truck...

Just installed Centerforce dual friction

one thing. the Centerforce dual friction sucks!! The pedal feel is awesome but it doesnt grab like i thought it would. i should have gone with the ACT. its a MUCH better clutch. the heavy duty with the 6 puck disk. perfect setup!! and i paid more for the stupid Centerforce!! dual friction my ass! the clutch slips still!! not too bad but in tough situations it slips. go with ACT. an awesome clutch and not too bad of a price!!

Interesting, I've got a Centerforce with a couple thousand miles on it, and it seems pretty good on road and off. Pedal feel is good, and it grabs really well. If you want grab try the Centerforce II. (Hope you have strong calves. )
