Weird noises in 4'th gear please help
I was driving around today, and my truck, an 89 Runner with 3.0 196xxxK started making a sound on and off again in 4'th gear. Sounded like belt slippage, but checked an all belts are tight.
Then while gearing down a weird grinding/ticking sound occurred going into second from third (and yes I put the clutch in all the way)... Any thoughts/ideas? |
Oh no, I really hate to have to tell you this. Your transmission needs some new synchros and/or some bearings replaced. Those sounds will only get worse. Then the shift quality will rapidly deteriorate until it will be nearly impossible to get it into 3rd and/or 2nd gear(s).
I know from experience. I just had to replace my entire transmission because it was more cost effective than replacing all the worn out parts I found when I tore it open. I did get lucky, however, and found a used R150F with only 110,000 miles on it in sound condition for $150(+the price of new input/output shaft seals I installed to comply with the warranty provided). My old one had ~226,000 miles, so maybe the one I got will go that far at least. I hope. |
My truck is makin the same noises. ah this blows. im thinkin about just gettin one of marlins rebuilt tranny's
