Add me to the list! I've wrenched on mine FAR more than I ever expected.

However, my vehicle also has >160K miles, and most if not everything you've done is really expected repairs/maintenance on a vehicle with that many miles.

Also, when you do those kind of maintenance items you may find that it's the first time its been addressed since the truck was born and it may be the last time they will have to be done!

I feel for you I've gotten mostly lucky with mine the truck had 250K on it when I bought it and the major repair has been a new clutch and tranny at 275 (not bad for the original transmission seeing my chevy's went out at 185, 164, and 140) now other then needing an engine rebuild and again for 275 not that unexpected. All other repairs have just been regular maintenance items. Now the only wrenching on it I do is mod it

So far the 4runner will be the biggest money pit but then that is why I bought it for about $1500 bellow market value knowing that its going to need a lot and even more then I would like but to me its worth it.

Like I said I feel for you, even Toyota can make a lemon or even Toyota's can't hold up to the abuse of a bad owner! Fix it up right and then all you will have to do is mod it!

I feel your pain man. My first Runner was a 1990 with 165k, and it was shot. bad ring seals, lifters ticking, all that jazz. Now my second Runner is way better . It has 370k on it, and it is just now starting to need a valve job, but not terribly bad. (I have enough time to save up the money). And for all of you who are going to ask, yes I am still on the first engine, and tranny, with no head gaskets changed yet. I did recently replace my factory fan, because the fan pulley went out (we removed it, put in an electric fan, and are running everything off of the crank), but other than that I'm doin pretty good.

Every car company can make a lemon, but GM makes nothing but.I guess you could say toyota has made a glass of lemonade compared to GMs lake michigan of lemonade.Try to look at it that way when working on your 4Runner,lol.

You could always be doing this at 80k with a Chevy, instead of 160k with a Toyota...

i turned 216k miles today. had it since july rebuilt the rear brakes, new exhaust, tires front brakes, iget that 2200 - 3000 rpm tick at half throttle everyone here seems to get. but i still love her. next are the front cv bearings, replace broken rear coil, replace shifter boot, replace ox sensor, flush the radiator again (po thought that orange water was good.. must be a chevy guy), and new shocks.

i bought my yota back in march of this year i had if for bout 2 weeks then had money to run it threw deq i had it running in my yard for bout 25 mins to warm up to temp and i get in it and it was over heating a lil. I was like hmmm so i drove it down to napa ( not far away ) and it went down on the wya there but by the time i got to napa it was over heating bad so i went in got coolant, i got a new radiator cap and thermostat. LONG STORY SHORT i got home found out the water pump went out on me so i had to replace it.

basically no matter what vehicle you have unless you buy it off the lot brand new its going to have to be fixed no matter what. but the good thing bout yotas is is that even tho it can be spendy in the long run its worth it.

amen. this is my new signature! how many 100k+ mile rangers, s10s, blazers or jeeps do you see on the trails? your truck is young, get it up to snuff and it'll last you another 150k. good luck on the repairs, glad mine only has 60k

I hear y'all! I never expected I would need to do as much work on my truck as I did. I'm OK with it for a few reasons. First, it has 178K so some of the stuff I've had to replace is to be expected at that age. I also know that if I can weather the storm of repairs, the truck will be that much more reliable in the long run. Further, the first-gen 4runners are just fun trucks, regardless of how reliable they are. It's worth wrenching on a truck that is inherently awesome!

yea with the chevys and jeeps
but i know my buddies ranger was tough it had 160,000 on it and every weekend we would run the crap out of it. this includes rev-limiter 1st gear though 3rd then slammed into reverse over and over when we got stuck (it was 2wd). then nasty one wheel peels up the road. we jumped it a couple times. chased after deer at around 40-60 through a field. nothing ever broke.
we cut the roof off and made it a convertible. then he ended up pulling the motor and transmission and crushing it just because he needed money to rebuild his 22re
