Ventilation broken thing
Since i've owned my 4runner, turning on the air system has produced a banging sounds. I found out what's going on after digging into it but i do not know what this part is. It's laying on top of the blower motor and really (obviously) restricting the air flow. It has that foam on both sides of it. Does this piece have any affect on the foot heating option?
Can anyone help identify what part this broke off of please? If anyone has good ventilation schematics or disassembly instructions i'd be appericated as well! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...8ffe378f35.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...17fe56234c.jpg |
This flap selects cabin air or outside air via the recirculation selector..
Don't know the Toyota name or number off hand. If it's completely loose and sitting on the heater core yeahvits probably restricting air flow pretty bad. |
ooo I thought so! that's why i get a hardcore breeze coming in when i hit 70. Thank you, any recommendations on repairs?

It doesn't look like it's completely detached in the photos, unless you're actually hold it up not just in the two positions.
From memory there is a cable/rod attached to a lever in the side of the box. Yeah salvage a used one, clean it and refresh the seals. There are similar foam seals on the main diverter, and on the individual junctions of the air ducts. You will want to clean and reseal these to help with your air flow. You can use foil duct tape on these also for piece of mind (foil tape is for ductwork it conforms to bends and holds well with heat cycles, duck tape is not what you want it will deteriorate rapidly).. You have it apart, it's a good time to clean the fins the air passes through on the heater core. You may also want to check inside the cowl for the screens intended to keep debris from falling through. These were eliminated on some production runs for some reason, and after time even the ones that had them they have failed on if you found leaves in the air box this is why. Let us know what you find, what you do, any tips you find along the key, and can't have to many photos either. |

Would be greatly appreciated. Co is talking about this mesh screen. Under the grates. The driver side opening is missing on our first-gens. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...9000553e7.jpeg Putting a gutter screen (picture below), right under the grates is on my long list of projects. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/1T...I=w974-h623-no |
Ventilation Assembly
Hello:
I have a 4Runner that I am parting out as a donor to fix my collision damaged car. I took two pics of the donor ventilation assy. since I have the complete dash removed. It looks as if your assy. is missing the complete bottom piece that has the blend doors in it. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...7642b428d2.jpghttps://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...9cbf523c29.jpg Let me know if you want to purchase the one from my donor.
