Valve guides or Oil rings going on 120k mi 22RE?!
Hey guys got a question, probably already know the answer but any input would be great. I've got a 91 toyota truck 22re 2wd and upon startup it blows out a good puff of blue smoke. I know its burning oil but just wondering if it's the valve guides and hopefully not the rings. It only smokes in the morning when cranked after sitting all nite. I'm going through less than a quart of oil every 3000 miles which i believe is just fine for a 16 yr old engine with almost 120k miles. So my question is are the rings or valve guides the culprit? I'm going with the guides since it happens only upon initial startup and not going down the road. thanks..
