I ordered four washer seals from ToyotaPartsDeal.com
Part Number: 90210-08040
They don’t look like the ones that are currently installed but the website said they’re for my truck. They do “fit” and the nuts will thread on but it doesn’t look like it’s supposed to. Can anyone shed some light on this?
If so, it looks fine, just as long as the nut is snug, but not that tight. The washer seal on the left looks like it is beyond compressed and is past it's prime. The new washer seals should sit taller as they have not been compressed and have not gone through the many heat cycles your old ones have.
The part number you gave says it does not fit my 1987 22R.
It looks like there was a change for the 1994 model year for these washer seals according to parts.toyota.com
I do not know what change was made or why, but I do not think you have anything to worry about, just as long as the washer seals fit nicely between the stud and the rocker arm cover (valve cover).
What do the bottom side of the washer seal look like?
I have a ‘94. So I’m right in the middle, haha. I also saw those other ones you mentioned but they were more expensive.
Yes, the one on the right is new and left is old. Actually not that old, only a few years. It’s aftermarket from a cheap kit and I replaced them when I did the timing chain. I wanted OEM this time.
They do look like they’ll seal just fine but they have this grooved shape which makes me think they sit inside something.
The groove is probably part of the manufacturing process and part structure with the use of different materials.
These are the same style I wound up with on the 86. My studs weren't long enough to put the nut on top so cut 1/16th off the top and put the top plate back on. Works fine.
The indent gives them room to spread under compression without going all doughnut shaped.
Ah, ok. I guess I was questioning them because of the drastic shape/size difference from the existing seals...which as said they are super crushed. Probably not a good reference then.
