Urgent: Need help with timing chain have pictures

Hello everyone again. I am getting real close to buying a 93 Yota 2.4.L Truck and I am unsure about the timing chain. The salesman said by the look of the new bolts the chain appears to have been changed. Is that true? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

Unless anyone has xray vision, there is no way to tell. Only way is to open her up and see if the guides, chain and tensioner are new.

Sorry, no other way around it...

Snobdds is right. You can kind of see down into the cover if you remove the valve cover and use a flashlight. At least checking to see if the guides are intact.

If its got the metal guides then it is guaranteed to st least be newer. May still be old. But they arent factory. There is always the possibility of then replacing then with plastic guides. But if the original ones are in there. Then chances are that they are broken.

Let the salesman know that you know it's a $1000 job head gasket should be done at the same time. It can be done with out a head gasket but most people bugger the head gasket trying to put the cover back on with it being very right between the head and oil pan. Unless he has proof assume it has not been changed

remember this guy is trying to sell you something so he is going to tell you whatever you want to hear to make the sale. He doesn't care if it has or has not been done.
