Ughhhh!! I have my "altimeter" ready to install, but can't get the dash off!!

I tried the search function, but dial up blows and I need to get this job done. So sorry about the assumed repeat question.

Trying to get the dash off (the dash part where the "altimeter" thing rides), but there must be something else holding it back.

What am I missing? Thanks.

Hang on.......I need to settle down and get a beer!!

Ok, I'm back. 1989 4Runner. It's a "stripped down" model, but I've been picking up things along the way (wheels, altimeter, etc.) and really sprucing the ole' girl up.

Just putting the factory alloys on her sure made a huge difference and reversing the tires to all blackwalls.

Plus, the guy I bought if from was a big time a$$hat, so, I did a little "work" and he will be sending me 700 bucks back off the purchase price. I can be pretty pursuasive sometimes!!

I must be missing a couple hidden bolts or clips somewhere. It's the passenger side dash panel I'm trying to get off.

Did you take the glove box out? And the center console too, I THINK, but I'm not too sure about that part...

Seems like there's something holding it up by the windshield.

Ok, how much beer is this gonna cost me? I can't believe I'm the only one who wanted to take the dash off to install an altimeter thing!! I got the dash off (the instrument panel dash off........hmmmmm......wish I had a dash cluster with a tach and the extra guages to swap out while I've got it apart) on the driver's side, but can't get the dash off on the right side.

What am i missing?

Invest in a FSM if you are going to keep your rig.

There is a bolt "inside" the far right passenger vent. You must first remove it to remove the dash. There are (2) clips top and bottom that hold the vent in. There is also one up "under" the dash up by the windshield. You'll need to lay down face up in the floor board w/ a flashlight and a long extension to get this one. Those are the only 2 hidden bolts.

This was from taking my 85 dash off, but it should be the same.

I found the one nut up under the dash, and I took the vent out of the right side of the dash, but is there something else that needs to come off? There is definetly something holding the right side of the dash yet. Dang, so close, too!!

Like I said, I have the "moveable" part of the vent out on the right side of the dash. What else am I missing?

Thanks again.

There are 2 nuts and six screws that hold on the safety pad.

5 screws are on the bottom of the safety pad...then there are 3 other places to get loose, don't remember which is a screw, which is just a nut, but the other 3 are...

1 on the far left, nut, up by the windshield which is under the gauge cluster pad, 1 in the center of the dash, that hidden one, and then 1 inside the far righ passenger vent, I believe it is a screw.

I'm sitting here looking at the pic...so there are only 2 nuts and six screws...you need to count and make sure. Once you get those off, it should fall off easily.
