Tune Up Time!

So I'm getting ready to do a tune up on my 89 4runner. It's got 230,000 miles on it and it looks like the guy before me neglected the poor thing. NE ways, I just got the thing and I'm wanting to get some input on the following brands/types I should get of each.

-spark plugs
-plug wires
-distributor cap/rotor button
-Coil

Any suggestions??

pcv, fuel filter, air filter, oil and filter, change out all your fluids--->diffs, tranny, transfer case, brake fluid, check you brakes, lube your door hinges...

and if you want to seafoam, i do

NGK Plugs BPR5EY 1233
NGK Wires 9799
OEM Cap And Rotor.
Replace your coil only if has failed. W/OEM
Napa carries quality filters.

use OEM for ignition parts... including ND plugs

I havent seen "better than OEM" cap/rotor for ages
(Accel used to have one back in the 80s that was nice by the 90s the OEM ones were better IMHO)

Magenecore wires are IMHO the nicest of the aftermarket - but $$$

Personally, I like to run synthetic in my driveline. I have a manual trans and I run Amsoil Manual Trans 75W90 in the trans and transfer case and Royal Purple 75W90 in the diffs. Some people like to use Redline and some other brands.. You can't really go wrong with any of these. Just make sure you use GL-4 in the trans instead of GL-5 (GL-5 will eat the syncros).

If you have an automatic you might want to rethink changing it if it never has been. Sometimes you can cause a neglected transmission to go out by changing the fluid.

GL 4 is right. but it is unessicary to use synthetic.

unless you have a super charger on your 22RE and are running the Baja 500, it is over kill.
