Truck wont start?

Ok so i have a 87 4runner with the 22re in, Drove fine one day, went out to start the next and wouldnt start. I know i am getting spark because it will run off of starting fluid. Fuel pump turns on and runs. I am getting fuel to the rail and cold start injector. No codes were stored and the TPS and AFM are both working. Any thoughts on something i have missed. I have searched on here and other forums but am still not having any luck. I dont see any loose wires or grounds and the fuses are fine. Thanks

Paul

it will run as long as you feed it starting fluid, right? and how long have you kept it running on starting fluid?

da92ls 07-23-2007 03:22 PM

i can keep it running as long as i keep spraying. I have gone for 2 maybe 3 mins so far

TORTIS 07-23-2007 03:26 PM

hmmmm. when was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

da92ls 07-23-2007 03:58 PM

i havent changed the fuel filter it looks fairly new. i just got the truck 3 months ago. I can feel fuel coming out of it though

TORTIS 07-23-2007 04:11 PM

and you have disconnected the fuel line from the fuel rail and you have good pressure? I dont know other than a clogged fuel filter. i'm stumped!!!

I'd change the fuel filter. It's cheap enough. and check to make sure your getting fire to the injectors. Check the plugs on the harness, where they plug into each injector using a noid tester. good luck with it

da92ls 07-23-2007 04:54 PM

i will change the filter just because its cheap but i know i have good pressure at the rail. I checked the injector harness with the mulitmeter and i was getting 12v i havent checked with a niode light yet. I just thought it would be strange that they all died at once. To me it seems like a computer problem. Like the ecu dosent see the truck tring to start

I know this is for a newer rig but I'd still try some of the diagnostics here. I think most of the system would still be the same between the two. Not sure how close though.

Thanks i am going to check some of those things tomorrow

TORTIS 07-24-2007 04:10 PM

Well. Is it fixed?

da92ls 07-26-2007 02:44 PM

sorry i have been busy the past few days but no its not fixed. I checked the main efi relay and its fine. If the TPS is out of adjustment will that keep the truck from starting? I am going to check it again just to be safe. Still getting fuel to the rail though.

TORTIS 07-26-2007 05:08 PM

I think, I think it would start and run even if the TPS is unplugged. are the plugs wet with fuel?

da92ls 07-26-2007 05:30 PM

no the plugs arent wet. I am going to double check the fuses tomorrow with a test light. The injectors have power to them but i dont know if they are firing will check that tomorrow too. I just dont see all 4 of them just going bad. Theres something i have to be missing but dont know what.

mr toytech 07-26-2007 05:41 PM

either the injectors arent fireing or the pump isnt carring enough pressure.

TORTIS 07-26-2007 05:41 PM

yep. i agree. relay. fuse. wire.

da92ls 07-27-2007 09:46 AM

well i got it started. The only thing i did was pulled the pump. It was sitting a little sideways in the cradle so i moved and it started right up. Any thoughts oh and it idles high i think no tach but sounds to fast.

TORTIS 07-27-2007 10:05 AM

you are kidding. hmmm. well i hope it stays running.

da92ls 07-27-2007 02:13 PM

so i took it around the block and whenever i hit the brakes the idle becomes jumpy.

TORTIS 07-27-2007 04:14 PM

adjust your idle, it might be to high.
