Truck no longer idles, need some help *pics*

So the weirdest thing happened, I got in my 1986 22RE (4x4 and EFI) to go to the store and it died getting off the freeway....I thought that was weird but it kept doing it, anytime I let off the gas and let it idle at a stop sign or pulling into a parking lot it would just die....

So I got home and adjust this screw, it has some sort of filter at the end of it and I'm not exactly sure what it does but it appeared to adjust the idle and now it runs fine. But I don't like that, I wanna know why it did this all of a sudden so I can actually fix whats wrong.

The screw in your picture is your dashpot adjusting screw. The idle adjustment screw is located on the top of the throttle body just to the left of the air intake as you are looking at it from the front of the truck. The dashpot screw should RARELY need adjustment - it affects how quickly the throttle plate closes when the throttle is let off. It is possible that the dashpot was hung up previously and someone else adjusted the dashpot screw to compensate for a high idle instead of the idle adjustment screw. If that was the case and the dashpot freed up it would allow the throttle plate to fully close and drop the idle so low that it would die. There is a sequence to follow to properly adjust the dashpot that is in the FSM. If you don't have one, let me know and I can email you the page.

Ok thanks man, I have the FSM but didn't have it with me when I had to fix it. It definitely seemed to fix it just fine and the truck really sounded like it was being suffocated when you let off the throttle, it was like it was being choked.
