Trouble with dome light turning on for door
Im having trouble with the dome light lighting up while the door is opened. I set it to door at the dome light and open up the door and it doesnt light up. Ive tried it with both doors but still nothing. The dome works just fine when I turn on the dome but not with the doors. Is there anything I could do to test the door open sensor located on the door jam? My trucks a 93 extended cab 4x4.

Take off the kick panels and unplug the light switches and remove them. Give them a good cleaning, they can get corroded and dirty and not work. Also check the wiring to make sure its not broken. Also make sure there is no rust on the switch contact in the light housing.

x2. They also might just be unplugged. The PO did it to mine, i fixed it, then unplugged it again a week later. I couldnt stand the buzzer, and i dont need the light.

One of my next projects is to add another dome light to my 86 4Runner, the stock light is not very bright at all, but i keep putting it off as well.

this was before I ever started wrenching on the truck; it bothered the crap out of me that the dome didn't come on when the driver's door was opened, but it did when the passenger door was opened
Finally one night I got fed up, and right in the parking lot of Walgreens I think it was, I grabbed a flash light, ripped that lower side panel off, and found the little wire just dangling there I plugged it in, and YAAAYYY, I had light but yeah the door buzzer can get a little aggravating sometimes...

On the 85 and up trucks; only the drivers side door switch was tied to the light reminder relay (Buzzer), if you unplugged it the drivers door switch would not turn on the dome light, the passenger's side worked the way it was supposed to. On these all you have to do is remove the relay find the plug and jumper 2 wires to get your door switch working again. On my 86 I think the wires were red and black/white. Also if your truck has the ignition key light option you get that working again.
On the 90's this got more complicated the light reminder relay became the integration relay with now 12 wires instead of 7 before. Many additional circuits go through this, for example the coil side of the front heater relay is fed off of the 10a.gauge fuse, but this feed goes through the integration relay before the heater relay coil. It's also built into the underside of JB#1 which is under the left kick panel. Unpluging it would probably affect other systems that you require, but you might get into the buzzer psection and dismantle that.

i think he might be talking about if the P.O. didn't know what he was doing maybe? basically disabling both the buzzer and the light at the same time.

You don`t have to unplug the relay box or jumper any wires, all you need to do is disable the buzzer in the relay box and that`s it. its a very simple thing to do.

nmsnowman done a very good write up in the electrical section, on how to disable the buzzer and leave the dome light working.I followed his directions on my 89 and it worked out great.
