Transmission send/return lines on a 1986 22re Truck?
 
I have found contradicting info on this. Does anyone know for sure which lines are the send and return lines on a 1986 Toyota truck with a 22re 4-cylinder engine? I have the A43D transmission. I assume the return line back to the transmission is the driver's side because that is the coolant flow direction as well:

Umm, really does it matter?

One line sends hot(ish) fluid to the cooler and the other returns cool(ish) fluid to the trans.

If you're really needing to know- remove one of the hoses, then start the truck: fluid will gush out of one (that's the "send")... the other is return.

Actually it does, kinda. The coolest part of the radiator is going to be the lower (outlet), thus the more the fluid is going to be cooled down. It won't be as efficient if your return line is coming out the hottest part of the radiator.

With that said:

Just went back to look at this. Using Parts diagrams to confirm.
Supply line IS lower rad hose drivers side). So even though it's not as efficient, that's the way it is.

32921 TUBE, OIL COOLER INLET (this would be your supply line, Driver's side) (lower rad hose side)
32922 TUBE, OIL COOLER OUTLET (this would be your return line, Passenger Side) (upper rad hose side)

The trans fluid cooler part of the radiator resides in the lower portion of the radiator and whether the fluid enters from the left or right isn't going to make a huge difference other than if it enters near where the coolant exits the radiator (flows to the water pump), it may raise the temp of the coolant going to the water pump slightly, and thus the engine could overheat, right?

Were the trans fluid to enter on the opposite side of the radiator where it would give the coolant a few more milliseconds to mix and scrub some heat before it went to the water pump would be better, no?
