I'd like to start rebuilding manual transmissions, mainly the W and R series transmissions. I know that Marlin Crawler sells kits, but I'm hoping I can source the parts with less retail markup in the pricing. I'm new at this so I'm asking for recommendations on where to look for these items. --

Thanks for the links broncrider. I had already been looking at drivetrain.com. If you add their kits plus syncros you get to slightly less than the Marlin Crawler price ( $377 vs $419 for a W56 and $323 vs $429 for a R151). Hard to tell too if the kits are comparable. I just noticed that Marlin doesn't sell kits any more anyway.

I wonder if the bearings can be sourced separately from bearing companies? -- Matt

best way to do it man is call them. i know this because i sell diesel parts and the only way to find out what you NEED to know is talking to someone that knows what there selling. call marlin and pick at there brains see if you can find out were they get there gears from. are you doing this for yourself or wanting to start a little bussiness? cause if you are call them and look into becoming a dealer for them. so you can get a better price. also go around to local tranny shops and pick at there brains see what they know who they think makes the best stuff. and all that good stuff. but ALWAYS call to find out what you really want to know..

I agree. I like to get the lay of the land as much as I can using online resources and then with that knowledge go to the phone. I used to cold-call people for a business I was once involved in.
