Tracking down a power steering leak in '91 V6 3.0

I'm trying to track down a leak in the power steering system, and I *think* I may have found it, but I'm not sure, because I don't even know what these hoses are. I suspect I'm leaking ATF fluid from theses hoses, which is saturating the lower end of the power steering pressure hose, and from there onto the garage floor. Before I go taking things out of my 4 runner, can anyone identify what these puppies do? Or am i looking at a hose that couldn't leak ATF fluid because it doesn't pass any to begin with? I really have no idea. (EDIT: Vacuum lines?) I haven't had to mess with Power steering in any vehicle whatsoever in probably 20 years.

Please see attachments.

Thank you.

Hard to tell from your pix, but it looks like you're pointing to the Air Control Valve http://web.archive.org/web/201102060...11powerste.pdf (3d large drawing), more commonly called the Power Steering idle-up valve.

The two lines are not SUPPOSED to have any ATF (the valve just connects the two vacuum lines, which allows more air into the plenum, raising the idle). But if the diaphragm inside the valve fails, you will be shooting ATF (at high pressure) into those lines, into the plenum. Not good. SO, you might have a very slow leak there. Trace the two vacuum lines up to the passenger side of the plenum, and pull them off. Do you see ANY evidence of ATF at that end? You have a bad air control valve.

The plenum picture in this thread https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f120...layout-233927/ might help finding the hose locations on the plenum. Look at 5 and 13. Like scope said, pull them off the plenum and see if either contain AFT fluid.

I might just be the pump. Mine has been leaking for some time. Just sort of seeps out of the back. Not real obvious and drains down on everything below. I ordered a power steering pump gasket kit on Sundayto rebuild it...expecting it to arrive today. Search for part 0444620031. I ordered from Genuine Pars Planet off amazon for $32. Supposed to be OEM. They are $13.00 at O'Reilly for Masterpro brand.

What year and model truck do you have? I'm having the same problem and i don't know how to take the power steering pump apart, please take pictures and maybe do a write up on how to fix the P/S leak.

I have the pump out...part of a larger job, but have not yet re-built it yet. It is a 1992,3.0, 4x4. Parts came is last night, so hopefully get to it in the next couple of days. I read several threads like the ones below and have a copy of the FSM. Others said they had problems removing the pulley. I used a strap wrench to hold the pulley and did not have issues. After removing the bolt, the pulley came off by just wiggling it. Be careful to not lose the key. Also be careful to not break the idle up valve screwed into the lower side on the back. My tip for emptying the reservoir is to buy a cheap spray bottle at the dollar store, remove the little filter on the bottom of the suction tube (if it has one), and remove the spray pattern adjuster cap. The put the spray bottle suction hose into the reservoir and pump the fluid into the bottle. Nice and neat, with no drips
