Topless?

Hi all, I'm curious to know how many people still don't have the tops on their first gen 4Runner?

sdstud212001 Dec 10, 2006 07:14 PM

you know what, mine has never been off. She's a lady.

SwampThing Dec 10, 2006 07:25 PM

Guess mine's a lady of loose morals then, cause she goes without her top whenever possible! :moon:

My girl's a complete slute. She goes topless even in the winter.

Mine is just laid on to keep the water out, whenever its ready to go somewhere, off comes the top... when i come back, lay the top back on.

1985 4Runner Dec 10, 2006 07:42 PM

tops been off all winter.

bob200587 Dec 10, 2006 07:43 PM

It's way too cold to have it off here.....I put it back on in Oct. I think. Too much rain and snow to have it off. Can't get it warm inside or camp in it with it off during the winter.

I wish I had a 1st gen so I could take off the top. I'd like to put a fabric top, but.. alas, I have a 2nd gen. so no top removal.

EVERYBODY would.....but nobody can afford 1000 bucks for a top, that's just a few hundred shy of 2 air lockers.

dont say nobody.
im rich. :cry2:

Jeep soft tops work good. Just fab a bar with two 90* bends to hold up the back, and vola. Had a top like that for a good while before I made my bikini top.

I made one from a YJ bikini, but it just looked tacky. Still pretty good for someone who can't fab anything. BUT, it doesn't keep you warm.

SwampThing Dec 10, 2006 10:16 PM

Ah, nah I made mine out of a full sized canvas soft top for a CJ5

vwfastg60 Dec 10, 2006 11:38 PM

mines about to come off for the first time ever. I never got to take my 86's off but with this one its different..she wants to be a slut and i love it! I have a Kayline for when shes going to sit out in the summer but shes parked for about a month or two so im getting her naked for more fun to come home to.

rcm3 Dec 11, 2006 12:56 AM

Mines also a lady.....

How long does it take everyone to do an on-->off or off-->on operation? How many people does it take? 2? Anything besides wrenches needed?

SwampThing Dec 11, 2006 03:46 AM

Takes bout 2 minutes to undo all the bolts, and another 30 seconds to slider it off and put it somewhere. Takes a bit longer than taking off your average girl's top, but just as satisfying. Entirely possible to do by yourself (done it many times before), but it's much easier, not to mention safer, to have two people to slide it off or on.

sdstud212001 Dec 11, 2006 05:59 AM

I'v always been worried that it would never seal propperly. Especially because it's never been off I'm concerned with the condition of the seal. Have you guys had any problems like that?

texsurfer Dec 11, 2006 06:15 AM

on my 1st gen i would use motorcycle tie downs from garage rafters to hold it. i could lift and tighten straps and get it up about 8 to 12 inches (to clear roll bar padding) and drive out from under it. took about 20 minutes as long as you didn't have the interior trim cover the bolts. putting it back on wasn't bad either. i would put the hooks in the back window channel and on the front, i think i slid the windows open and did the same or something similar

I've never had a problem with it sealing and my seal's really not in that great of shape.

I haven't had mine off since September and it will probably stay that way until spring.
