Anybody used the TJ coils to lift the rear of their 1st generation 4 runner? Thinking about doing it. Can get a brand new set of rear tj coils from an '06 Rubicon.

measure them then measure the gap, i know of people using a coil to fix the sag, and to help with loads, but i cant remember from what.

Ummm - you have leafs, what are you gonna do with coils?

no fools, you put one side of the coil on the bumpstop and one on the bumpstop bumper thing with some buckets to help with the sag. i think its on 4x4wire.

Yep, I do honestly wonder if its worth it..but his runner shouldnt be sagging-new leafs would be a better solution anyways.

Whats stopping said coils from flying out?

The coil fits in between the bump stop and something else there (cant recall) but its not a good idea.

uhh add-a-leaf is a MUCH better and safer idea...After buying everything that i needed including new u-bolts, paint, primer, and sandpaper im looking at a little over $100

I know it looks "ghetto" and un-safe but why does a new idea always have to get knocked?

How stupid is the 3rd gen Tundra/Top out setup? We are using stuff that was never intended for a 4Runner, yet it works amazingly well.

I wish we'd all stop ripping on other individuals ingenuity. It's that same ghetto fab that has developed many, many good advancements in OEM design.

I'am not condoning this idea nor do I oppose it, in fact I respect guys having the balls to post weird stuff that accomplish the same result as a commercially available product.

I'm ready for the fire-balls.

Its not the fact that it looks unsafe-it freaking is! I applaud the eprson who came up with the idea as a ingenious way to add lift, but the problem is the whole idea itself is quite pointless as some new leafs would fix the entire problem, cost less and be easier to install.

So if it flies out over a big bump what exactly happens to kill or maim the driver?

You're going 90 and hit a speedbump and go flying into the air, your makeshift coil spring lift compresses and then slips out and flies off the truck bouncing down the road. Your truck returns to the factory springs that have been as yet unmodified and after all you were going 90 so there's no one on your tail anyhow...

Like I said, outside of the box but not really too unsafe IMO.

And as he did more of them he figured out better ways to mount them. I can't see a big deal doing it like this at all:

I agree that someone that gives a different opinion around here gets dogged. Kind of funny seeing as how there is this supposed no flaming policy.
