Tires, 33x12.50
 
So I got my 33x12.50s mounted today and they fit...kind of, they touched my running boards so I removed the plastic cap and it helped. But now they rub the firewall, jesus too big eh? And I went to do some light offroading and the rears hit the bumper -_-. So I guess I wont do anything really tough til my lift comes in, Ill have pics tomorrow. I didnt notice much a power drain like everyone says though, still the same nutless 3.0 it feels like.

The biggest I have heard you can run on a 2nd gen, is 32's. Are you going with downey coils and ball joint spacers or....?

Bejita, Didn't know you had running boards yet, the end caps will be a problem. That bead weld will have to be pounded in yet, even with the lift for offroad. What confuses me is how the rears even come close to hitting the bumper, even with the notorious but sag I don't se that as possible. My fronts only rub very slightly and that's at full crank on a steep incline turn. Pics?

looks good bejita. we got identical 4runners except for the tires, i just put some 32x11.50s on. im not sure if i would have gotten a rub with the running boards because i took them off before. but they definatley don't rub anywhere at all.

It looks like your passenger side rear bumper is pushed forward a little bit. My driverside is like that, I took my mudflaps off and I don't rub anymore. You could also change the bolts that hold the mudflaps on to a flatter screw head. My tires would catch on the bolts, I just removed my flaps. My pass side is fine because the bumper is where it should be.

I noticed that also, it sticks out about 3/4'' further then the dirver side? I dont know if it was wrecked or anything but I was gunna pull off the flaps and see if it helps at all, it looks like its almost touching the fender though. I might need to have them rolled a little if the lift doesnt take care of it. They dont touch horribly bad but its enough that Im worried about coming down too hard and ripping off a fender.

These are a bit old but you can see where you need a bit of valance trimming in front and the second one shows that your rear bumper is a bit forward.

Thanks for the compliment, I like black 4Runner better though. I havent noticed that the front valance needs tripped, I got about 2'' before the tire will hit so I think Im good there but I might try and adjust my caster and trim the valance rather then beat in the body.

Looks good but dang on man, take off your running boards!!!!! Your 4runner would look soooo much better with them off, and a little higher too. They look horrible with the front cap off anyway.

I removed the rear mud flaps and trimmed a lot of the front, it looks like it will help a bit, my friend has some 1/2'' spacers off his rover that he gave me and Ill see if they help at all and turn up the t-bars a little bit more and move on from there.

Yah running boards are coming off next, was hoping to wait til I got sliders but they look gruesome without the caps.

Oh wow, that's the exact tire I'm getting. Think there'd be more space with a 2" body lift + 1.5 inch lift in the back? I really like your rig by the way. What roof rack is that? :)

Thanks, its a Yakima Roof Rack system, and its a Kargo master basket. I think its too small but oh well, its off my friends jeep. I think with a 2'' BL you should be fine, dont lift the rear without the front though also just turn up your T-Bars and youll be in better shape then I am lol. I did some more trimming and went to a parking lot and did some tight turns and it pretty much fully clears now, very minor rubbing.

Here are a few things you need to understand:

The most important is that lift will NOT help you fit larger tires. Don't fool yourselves, the ONLY way to fit larger tires is 1. Lower the bump stops or 2. Cut the wheel well openings.

When I setup a truck, usally I start with the tire size and wheel size/offset I plan to run. Then check upward clearance and lower the bumpstops appropriately. With those measurments I set lift hight in compromise to downward travel.

I NEVER rubbed with 32x12.50 tires on my stock hight 4runner. The tires ran a true 32" bias ply which ran nearly the size of a radial 33x13.50 on the stock 15x7 wheels. You may want to look into changing wheels if you want to solve the rubbing without lowering bumpstops.

Almost forgot to say that the 'runner is looking sweet there with the wider wheels set out of the fenders :great:

I dont know if I posted this or if anyones aware of my 4WD problem, but I blew a CV joint right before winter and slid off the road and had to use my 4WD to get out, so after banging out of the ditch my 4WD stopped working so I was kind of hoping that is was just a safety thing knowing another part in the system was bad? Well I hoped wrong, I drained my front diff fluid and CHUNKS OF METAL came out, so that sucks ass!!!

I wouldn't worry about the rear too much, removing the rear mud flaps was probably all you needed to clear. My rear tires hit the frame before they hit anything else now.

There are three bumpstops per side on the front. There are two that contact the lower control arm when it comes up high and one that contacts the upper control arm when it drops low. You may need to shim the lower ones so that your tires don't come up as high on compression and hit your fenders. Or a mild body lift will also work.

I put on 2 inch coil spacers and cranked the t-bars about 4 times. I get a slight ammount of rubbing in the front. Not bad for 33x12.5
