timing chain cover gaskets

just starting to get my timing chain istallation back together here, and 2 quick questions.

are we using some silicone (rtv) on the gaskets?

one write up on the timing chain use some tape on the tensioner. is that to compress it? then when all said and done, pull the tape to let it go up against the chain?

thanks

use permatex on the paper gaskets, you are also right w/ the tape, but you can also just compress the tensioner w/ your fingers

if you haven't already save yourself the agony and buy replacement timing chain guides....when you torque the crankshaft bolt do not try to keep it from turning by lodging a screwdriver in the camshaft sprocket (the force is enought to break the camshaft sprocket) if you have a manual tranny you can put it in 5th gear and the engine won't turn.

i'm not sure what write up you are using but this is a good one http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...ingChain.shtml

I used a very thin layer of permatex ultra-grey on my paper gaskets. Like the previous poster, I just used my fingers to compress the tensioner.
