time to replace transmission?
so i got a 3.0 with the auto a340 with 310xxxkm on it and the transmission is vibrating like the truck like it has epilepsy. it shifts fine, but when putting in gear its very loud and very jerky, everyone that rides with me says something about it, at first i thought it was my back tires balance, but the vibration is so intense it couldnt be that, it almost doesnt vibrate at all at speed when you let off the gas, im pretty positive the transmision is shot. my problem is ive never replaced one before but have the want to try it, could anybody point me in the right direction(replacement threads, build threads etc.) to get this done? ive searched for awhile on this and cant find any insight on it :S and i know some of you out there have done it before so any help any help would apprecciated!

Sounds more like a rear end or driveline problem to me. Check your u-joints and rear diff for excessive play before you condemn the transmission.

I would also check the tranny mount on the crossmember... If there is significant movement (use a pry bar and wiggle) that could also be part of your problem. I would check motor mounts as well. Aside from that, and I have no advice on how to do it, check the selenoids.
PS, is the fluid still in good color or does it smell burnt? Save for a 5 speed if you love the truck enough, I planned on it before I bought my auto $Runner. It will open up an entire new world for you. |
You might want to check the companion flange nuts on the transfer output and the rear diff.

This couldnt hve come at a worse time as i just applied for a job that requires a 150km commute, but thanks for the tips i guess ill check this first, what are signs of the transmission failing? And yes i would love a 5spd, that is my only regret is buying an automatic

does anybody know the torque spec for the companion flange nuts?

Companion Flange Torque 90Ftlb 30MM Socket. Easy to do, just disconnect the drive shaft at the output shaft end, unstake the nut and check for tightness, torque to specs and restake nut.
